Writing Your Blog Posts

Blogging Requirements and Tips

First, if you aren't familiar with blogs, read some. You can search for topics in which you are interested.  The tone is usually conversational as if you are talking with the reader. When you answer the questions below, don't just go through the list. Try to incorporate your experiences naturally.

You will blog about your Genius Hour on your individual blog post, not the class page.

For your first blog, you may write about planning for the genius hour and the genius hour that occurred on September 13.  You can talk specifically about planning your weekly schedule (Action Plan sheet) and the shark tank pitch.

Weekly Topic Ideas:
Explain what you did during class and during the week outside of class.
Did everything go as planned on your Action Plan sheet? If yes, reflect on how you were able to        accurately predict what you could accomplish and stay on track?
If things did not go as planned, explain what happened and what your solutions were. How would the people reading benefit from your experiences?
You can reflect back to your shark tank pitch and those four issues: how are things progressing toward your ultimate goal.

Here are some additional requirements and tips:

  1. Use the labels given in the right column of your Action Planning sheet.
  2. Be consistent with your spacing. I don't mind if you skip a line between paragraphs rather than indenting.  That formatting is prevalent on the Internet.  Just make sure you either indent your paragraphs or you skip a line between paragraphs.
  3. You can do a podcast and place a link to it on your blog if you would like to try something different.
  4. Use photos taken as you work or photos from the Internet to help illustrate your talking points. It is really helpful for readers who are interested in learning along with you or just would like to understand more clearly. Inserting photos, videos, etc. can be done using the buttons next to "Link" in the tool bar.
  5. To spellcheck/grammar check your document, click on the ABC button in the top right-hand corner.
  6. If you would like to take a screenshot to use in your blog, here are links:                                   PC users- How to take a Screenshot     Android phone-Android Screenshot  IphonesIphone screenshot                                                                           After saving the image, I like to open it in PowerPoint to edit the photo.
  7. If you are using a cursive or script-style font, you may want to enlarge your text size for easier reading.
  8. Save will keep your work thus far. The Publish button sends your blog live to the public.

Below is a blog post that is of poor quality:

2.7

Hello, it is me again. It has been another successful week. I have come to the harsh realization that this project that is suppose to be simple project, but it appears that this will be the only project I get done this session. I have started to connect the two pieces. I had to soak the joints to soften them and then hang them from a nail to stretch them. I did this so i could make more room in the ring and fit a piece through. I plan on finishing these by next week and will try to do some tooling before my ted talk.
